From trial sleeping to mountain views: at home in Masseube.
In early 2024 I received the key to my new home at Domaine de Gascogne. From Maastricht I had been looking for some time for a place in nature, not far from the mountains, with space and quiet. Through the Second Home Fair I ended up here. The friendly atmosphere, the nature and the surprisingly good value for money immediately appealed to me.
I was able to test sleep here for a weekend first, and that made all the difference for me. You really have to feel a place like this: the surroundings, the house, the atmosphere. For me it was an instant hit.
My choice fell on villa type Porthos, with two bedrooms and – best of all for me – views over the rolling golf course AND the Pyrenees. Sometimes deer walk by in the garden, magical. The house is new construction, but I added my own touches, such as an air-conditioning system and an open ceiling construction so the wooden beams are nicely visible. From the outside it looks compact, but inside it is surprisingly spacious and cozy. The large terrace is my favorite spot; from April to October you actually live outside here.
As an avid cyclist, I am right at home here. You can cycle here off-road or from village to village, always surrounded by nature and bird sounds. And what is really special: motorists stop for cyclists here, even on the narrow roads. You feel welcome here.
The Domaine itself has a relaxed atmosphere. This is another place where you walk to the clubhouse without locking your front door. There is a lovely swimming pool to cool off in and if you want, you can take golf lessons on Wednesdays. From hole 4 the course really starts to get challenging, perfect for keeping moving.
The friendliness of the people struck me immediately, even if you don’t yet speak the language perfectly. You feel welcome, safe and free here. My tip to others? Just come once and feel it for yourself. This is really worth it.
